The recent fire event at OVH cloud, in Strasbourg, France and another similar incident in the US is a strong reminder of the risks which remain present in operating data centre facilities and, importantly, what this could mean for operational staff, business reputation and client services.
The Science & Technology Facilities Council (STFC) has chosen Keysource, the global data centre and critical environment specialist, to undertake a pre-construction services contract for the data centre upgrade at its Daresbury Laboratory facility in Warrington. This will involve supporting the live operation upgrade of the data centre facility which includes the lifecycle replacement of critical power, cooling and protection systems.
Keysource, the global data centre specialist, has been chosen to provide critical facilities management for Surrey County Council (SCC) and its partners, following a competitive tender. Under the terms of the two-year deal Keysource will be responsible for two dedicated, purpose built, state of the art data centres operated by the council which provide secure hosting space, applications and infrastructure services to over 8000 users.
Keysource has been appointed by Namsos Datasenter AS to deliver professional services for a new Edge Datacentre facility in Norway.

A comprehensive three-month audit across 11 global data centres was completed last year by critical environment specialists, Keysource. The professional services reviewed the pharmaceutical giant’s entire estate of edge compute to ensure they were able to support the business objectives for the next 10 years. The evaluation included reference to best practise and both national and international standards to support the ongoing IT Transformation strategy.
This month, Keysource enterprise consultant, Ted Pulfer was asked to speak as part of an expert panel for Insider_Networks on renewable energy in the Data Centre Industry. With data centre use increasing exponentially, and latest figures putting ICT energy use accounting for 3.6% of global energy consumption, the panel looked at options that could increase efficiency and reduce the environmental impact the industry has.
